Retirement KITAS: The Process and Procedure

“A foreigner over 55 years old who wish to spend their pension in Indonesia have a chance to get a temporary stay permit (KITAS) as long as they meet and fulfill all the requirements to have a retirement visa.”

Indonesia has a lot of cultures, warm climate and affordable cost of living, which attracts foreigners to visit and stay in Indonesia, including senior citizens who plan to spend their retirement life in Indonesia. Pensioners who wish to spend their pension in Indonesia can have a retirement visa to have a temporary stay permit for retirement purposes. This visa is eligible for pensioners over 55 years old who have no intention to work in Indonesia and have the right to stay in Indonesia for one year with an option of a yearly extension for up to 5 years.

Benefits of having a Retirement KITAS

Foreigners who wish to obtain this visa must present sufficient funds and prove that they have no intention of working in the country, along with presenting their health record as a confirmation of their health conditions. As a holder of a retirement visa, retirees will be able to enjoy numerous benefits such as:

1. Can open a local bank account;
2. Can hire a driver or domestic helper;
3. You could get a local driver’s license; and
4. You could buy and register a car in your name.

Requirements

To obtain a retirement visa, you should fulfil the requirements that you should be at least 55 years of age and have sufficient funds. Therefore, when you apply for the visa, you must submit the documents required for your application, as listed below:

1. A copy of all pages of your passport has to be valid for at least another 18 months and have six empty visa pages left;
2. Sponsorship letter from the agency who is handling your application;
3. A letter that states you do not have any intention of working in Indonesia and that you have found a place to live in Indonesia;
4. A copy of your health and life insurance policy;
5. A copy of your bank account statement with at least US$ 1,500 in it every month;
6. If you’re renting the accommodation, you should attach the rental agreement (Copy of landowner/land-lords ID Card, Apartment Address, the rent amount)

The retirement visa in Indonesia requires a travel agency to act as your sponsor. The agencies that can act as sponsors are appointed by the Tourism Department and the Directorate General of Immigration in Indonesia.
