The Directorate General of Immigration recently launched e-VoA through Circular Letter Number IMI-0794.GR.01.01 of 2022 for the purpose of monitoring, controlling, and evaluating the implementation of the Immigration Policy Regarding Visit Visa Services on Arrival Electronic (Electronic Visa on Arrival/E-VoA), Visit Visa on Arrival (Visa on Arrival/VoA), and Visit Visa Free for Supporting Sustainable Tourism during the 2019 Corona Virus Disease Pandemic.
The electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VoA) can be submitted through application namely molina.imigrasi.go.id which provided for travellers or foreigners from 86 nations who plan to enter the country.
Definition of E-VoA
E-VoA is a single-entry visa which is valid for 30 (thirty) days stay in Indonesia with the purposes only for Tourism, Government Visit, Business Meeting, Goods Purchasing, and Transit.
Application Procedure of E-VoA
Before submitting the e-VoA application, foreigners must ensure that they register and sign up for account on the application. Foreigners can submit for the issuance of e-VoA through application and the E-VoA is valid for 90 (ninety) days since issued. After 90 (ninety) days, the visa will automatically expire and foreigners can no longer use the visa for entry. Foreigners can extend their visa for 1 (one) time for another period of 30 (thirty) days at the local immigration office.
Immigration checks on e-VoA are carried out in accordance with Article 23 of Minister of Law and Human Rights Regulation No. 44 of 2015 which consists of:
a. Check Travel Documents;
b. Conducting interviews;
c. Checking Visas;
d. Scan travel documents;
e. Retrieve Biometric Data; and
f. Check in the Deterrence list.
According to Article 22 (1) b in Minister of Law and Human Rights Regulation No. 44 of 2015, foreigners who wanted to enter Indonesia by e-VoA must hold a passport with an expiration date at least 6 (six) months from the date of arrival. Based on the Circular Letter Number IMI-0794.GR.01.01 of 2022, the foreigner also must have return ticket or canal ticket to continue the trip to another country.
Benefits for Applying e-VoA
The e-VoA can be obtained easily anywhere through website with an internet connection. These visas can save time for foreigner instead of buying Visa on Arrival at the port of entry or at Indonesia Embassy/Consulate. The new system allowed the foreign visitors only to submit visas application through the application and proceed with an online payment. Foreign visitors no longer need to queue at the VoA payment counter at the arrival terminal and they do not have to exchanged their money into rupiah or dollars.
The Difference Between E-VoA and VoA
There are not many differences between e-VoA and VoA. These two types of visas cannot be converted into residence permits. A regular VoA allows the foreigner to purchase their visa at the VoA counter at the airport which often inconvenient due to long queue lines while for e-VoA can shorten the foreigners time due to the convenience of applying for a visa through the website.
