How to be an Esports Tournament Vendor in Indonesia

“In order to be an Esports Tournament Vendor, an individual or a company must follow the terms and conditions stated on the PBESI Regulation Number 034/PB-ESI/B/VI/2021 and they have to register themselves to the PBESI as a vendor.”

In Indonesia, there are a lot of games included as Esports games. Player Unknown Battle Ground Mobile, Free Fire, Mobile Legend, Valorant, and League of Legends are amongst the most popular Esports game here in Indonesia. Each year, teams compete in their respective games to win a significant amount of prize money.

A. Esports Tournament in Indonesia

In accordance with Article 1 paragraph (37) of The Peraturan Pengurus Besar Esports Indonesia (Governing Body of Esports Indonesia)Number 034/PB-ESI/B/VI/2021 concerning the Manangement of Esports Activities in Indonesia (“PBESI Regulation Number 034/PB-ESI/B/VI/2021”), Esports Tournament is a competition that is held by the permit given by the Governing Body of Esports Indonesia.

It is also important to differentiate between an Esports tournament and an Esports league. In accordance to Article 1 paragraph (38) of the PBESI Regulation Number 034/PB-ESI/B/VI/2021, an Esports League is a series of matches that is held in Indonesia and is sanctioned by the Governing Body of Esports Indonesia. So basically, a league is the platform where an Esports tournament will be held on.

B. Esports Tournament Classification

Esports tournament that is not held in the format of a League will be classified based on its prize money with the following classification:

  1. Prize money of more than IDR 100,000,000 will be classified as a large-scale tournament;
  2. Prize money ranging from IDR 15,000,000 to IDR 100,000,000 will be classified as a mid-scale tournament; and
  3. Prize money ranging of less than IDR 15,000,000 will be classified as a small-scale tournament.

Small-scale tournament is not regulated by the Governing Body of Esports Indonesia, but Large-scale and mid-scale tournaments must be held with the permission from the Governing Body of Esports Indonesia and must involve a member of the Governing Body of Esports Indonesia as an overseer during its planning and execution stages. Large scale and mid-scale tournament held without the permission from the Governing Body of Esports Indonesia is considered illegal and can be abruptly stopped.

In accordance to Article 22 of the PBESI Regulation Number 034/PB-ESI/B/VI/2021, large-scale and mid-scale Esports tournament must be held only by a registered vendor in the Governing Body of Esports Indonesia.

Esports tournament can be held with, but is not limited to the following formats:

  1. Knock out: a knock out system is a system that eliminates a player or a team after one (1) or two (2) losses.
  2. Round Robin: a round robin system is a system that matches all players or teams against each other and will eliminate a player or a team after reach a certain number of losses.

C. Esports Tournament Vendor

In accordance to Article 1 paragraph (51) of the PBESI Regulation Number 034/PB-ESI/B/VI/2021, Vendors are individuals or a legal business entity that is registered in the Governing Body of Esports Indonesia that is tasked to held Esports League or Esports Tournament.

A vendor must be a legal business entity, has the qualification, experience, and resources in the Esports field, and is not bankrupt. In order to be registered as a vendor, an individual or a legal business entity must do the following steps:

1. Obtain a Garudaku account via the following website: https://garudaku.com/auth/register

2. File a vendor registration application by providing the following supporting document:

a. The identity of the individual of company;

b. The address of the individual or company;

c. The deed of establishment (Akta Pendirian) and the Surat Keputusan Kementerian Hukum dan Ham;

d. The tax identification number (NPWP) of the individual or company;

e. The working permits and licenses of the Individual or company;

f. The profile of the company

g. The coordinator of the individual or company, including his or her name, position, phone number, and email;

h. The type of vendor the individual or company is applying for;

i. The bank account information of the individual or company (the bank and the account number);

j. The data/information of the individual or company’s main business/product;

k. The experience the individual or company has had in the Esports field;

l. The social media account of the individual or company;

3. After providing the mentioned documents above, the individual or the company must fill in the Vendor Registration Form provided in the account;

4. Send the form and the supporting document to the Garudaku’s email address at: partnership@garudaku.com;

5. The Governing Body of Esports Indonesia will evaluate and validate the individuals or company making the appeal on whether or not they are eligible to be a vendor;

6. Contract signing;

7. License and certification issuance.
